Honoring the lives of Margaret and Eugene Prechel, who built a foundation of faith, family, and friendship that will endure for generations.
Margaret "Marge" Prechel, 87, was the heart of her family and community. Born to Erhart and Lydia Krause in Springfield, MN, she dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse and mother.
In 1976, she and Gene embarked on a bold adventure, buying Hoot Owl Resort near Itasca State Park. Whether ministering at the hospital or welcoming vacationers "up north," Marge was known for her uncomplaining spirit and constant encouragement. She is survived by her children Jan, Lynda, and Steve, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Eugene and daughter Jolene.
Eugene "Gene" Prechel, 91, lived a life defined by hard work, humor, and an uncanny ability to turn strangers into friends. Raising four children with Marge, he was a pillar of his community through his work with Midland Oil and later as owner of Hoot Owl Resort.
A man of deep faith and civic duty, Gene helped launch the volunteer fire department in Elbow Lake and served actively in his church. He was respected for his generosity—always ready to help a neighbor or a lost snowmobiler. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter and kindness that touched everyone he met.
